Route Suggestion - Around Jerusalem's Walls

Four hundred and fifty years ago, the Ottoman sultan Suleiman the Magnificent built the walls that surround what we now call the old city of Jerusalem. The walk on the walls' walkway enables one to peak at Jerusalem from the top of the old city's walls and have a view of the old city's landscape against the new city. From the top of the wall, the fascinating landscapes of the distant past,Jerusalem's neighborhoods and amazing sites of the capitol are spread out.

The tour is divided to two parts:

The northern part - Jaffa Gate to Lion's Gate

Starts at the Jaffa Gate, goes through the New Gate and Herod's Gate, and ends at the Lion's Gate, and the southern part, that also starts at the Jaffa Gate, goes through Zion Gate and ends near the Dung Gate.
During our tour of the northern part, we will look into the houses of the Christian Quarter of the old city of Jerusalem, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and the Notre-Dame Monastery. We will go over the gate that leads north, to the city of Shechem and beyond, and look at the vibrant market street, that has been active since the days of the Roman reign. This part of the walkway ends at the Lion's Gate, where the Via Dolorosa begins – "the way of grief", across which Christian pilgrims step to this very day, carrying a cross.
