Masada

Masada is one of the five forts that were built in the second temple period (500 BC). The fort sits on a hill top 500 meters high and you can go up to the site either by foot or in a cable car. Qumran National Park

The story of Qumran National Park starts 2200 years back. But the actual discovery of the site happened only in 1947 by a Bedouin boy that was grazing his flock in the area. He was transporting his sheep and throwing rocks in a certain direction in order to lead the flock, when one of the rocks went in to a tiny cave in the area. When he threw the rock again in the same direction, he heard a metallic sound which led him to enter the cave in order to understand what he hit. The “discovery” that boy made brought many men of science and archeologists from all over the world to examine and dig in the area and they revealed parchment scrolls that tell the wonders of the Qumran period. These disclosures are considered one of the most significant discoveries in recent years.
