The Peace Mosque, Nazareth

The peace mosque (Jamat A-Salam) or the new mosque is a mosque residing east of the ancient city of Nazareth. The mosque was founded in the early 1960's, and inaugurated on November 22ed 1963, as the permanent letters above the mosque's entrance door.

The mosque is one of the largest and most centralized in town. The mosque is made out of stone and in the eastern end of the structure there is a high and thin minaret, which has two round terraces. In its upper section of the tower there are 4 clocks that point to the 4 directions of the wind (east, west, north and south), and above it a pointed grey roof.

The cavity of the mosque is square and very well lit by the 22 large windows shaped like hexagon. The arena's floor is covered with red carpeting with a pattern of arches on it. The mosque's dome is painted in its inner end with shades of green and in its base surrounded by little windows. In its outer end it is golden.
