The Israman Ironman Race 2018 is a tough sporting event held
in Eilat, Israel. In 2018 the race will be held on Friday January 26th and
there will be Israman Ironman events from the 24th to 27th
January. As one of Israel’s top events the Israman Ironman Race attracts participants
from across the globe. The race was first run in 1999 with only 26
participating athletes; in 2018 2,000 athletes are expected to compete in the
Israman Ironman race. This triathlon race is not for the faint of heart and
requires peak physical fitness. Participants will be able to choose between a
full or a half marathon course.
Of all the Israel events January 2018 has to offer this race
has the most glorious setting. Eilat is a beach resort city on the edge of the
Red Sea. When you are not racing or cheering on the participants you will find
plenty to do in this dynamic city including diving, water sports, ice skating,
tax-free shopping and visiting the Dolphin Reef.

The Israman Ironman Courses
There will be two courses available to participants. The
Israman 226 (Ironman distance triathlon) race consists of a 3.8km swim; 180km
bike ride and 42.2km run. The Israman 113 consists of a 1.9km swim; 90km bike
ride and 21.1km run. Both distance races start and finish at the Royal Beach
Hotel, Eilat.
The swimming section
of the race takes place along a triangular course with the full triathlon
participants completing the course twice. The transition between swimming and
cycling takes place behind the Sport Hotel just 400 meters from the water. The
cycle route is along route #12 and includes a steep incline through the rolling
hills overlooking Eilat. The cycle route ends at the junction point where route
#12 meets the Israel National Trail at the foot of Mount Yoash. At this
transition point participants will start the run descending route #12 back into
the city of Eilat and past many of the city’s main attractions. The finish line
is at the entrance to the sailing club.
Tough cutoff times have been set for each of the sections of
the triathlon. Participants who do not meet the cutoff times will immediately be
disqualified and their participation will be terminated. The final cutoff time
at the end of the day will be 23:20.
Israman Ironman January 2018 Relay Race
In both the courses participants will be able to compete as
part of a relay team. This gives you the option of completely the entire course
by yourself or splitting the swim, cycle and run categories between three team
members (or two team members where one athlete competes in two sections). For
relay teams there is no age category for each participant but rather an
accumulated age of all three participants. Teams can compete as groups of
men/women with an accumulated age under 119 years or over 120 years. There are
also categories for mixed sex teams with an accumulated age under 119 or over
120 years. There is a category for family teams and for doubles teams where one
of the participants competes in two categories.
Israman Ironman Prize Money
The first three in the elite category only, men and women
will receive a monetary prize. In the Israman 226 prize money will be 10,000ILS
for first place; 5,000ILS for second place and 3,000ILS for third place. In the
Israman 113 race prize money will be 5,000ILS for first place; 2,500ILS for
second place and 1,500ILS for third place. The prize money is on condition of a
minimum time requirement. If the minimum time requirements are not met the
prize money will be halved. Of course athletes compete for the challenge rather
than the prize money. In addition the first male and female Israeli citizen to
cross the finish line in each distance (Israman 226 and Israman 113) will
receive the Israeli Champion Trophy. Other trophies will also be awarded to
outstanding participants.
Special Events at the Israman Ironman Race
In addition to the race itself there will be several special
events including an Expo at the Isrotel Royal Garden Hotel; pro-athletes
presentation; a finish line party and award ceremony. Participants will be
treated to massage and physiotherapy treatments. Eilat has some of the most
luxurious hotels in the country and many recreational facilities to take
advantage of when you are not racing. Special viewing points have been set up
for spectators along the routes. The most popular viewing point is at the
Meridian circle where there will be a festive atmosphere and a DJ on hand to
provide up-beat music.
