Ramat Gan Safari
This safari/zoo is home to the largest collection of
wildlife in the Middle East. The safari is spread over 250 acres and divided
into two sections. First visitors drive through a “safari” where animals roam
freely. Visitors without their own car can take the Safari bus through this
section of the site. The next section of the site is a zoo. 83 species of
mammals, 23 species of reptiles and 92 species of birds are housed in
enclosures among lush gardens. The Safari Ramat Gan has eateries, cafes and if
you don’t fancy walking around you can rent a golf cart. For a really exciting
experience join one of the nighttime tours of the safari!
Israeli Children’s Museum
This award winning museum presents a variety of special
programs for different age groups. Unlike conventional museums you must book
tickets in advance for one of the programs at the Israeli Children’s Museum.
Among the programs there is “Dialogue in the Dark” where your eyes are covered and you are led
by a visually impaired guide and “Invitation to Silence” where deaf guides lead
visitors around inter-active exhibits. Other programs focus on age, time, the
environment and music. Programs are age specific starting with programs for
visitors as young as 4yrs old. This is a dynamic, unique, interactive
experience.
Design Museum Holon
This museum is focused on design and contemporary culture.
The museum building itself has a unique and dynamic design created by architect
Ron Arad. In addition to temporary exhibitions the museum presents permanent
exhibitions in historical design; contemporary design in Israel and around the
world plus works by graduating students from design academies in Israel.
Ariel Sharon Park
This park is part of an environmental rehabilitation project
and surrounds a former waste dump southeast of Tel Aviv. The accumulation of
waste had created a flat topped “mountain” which is now part of the park. At
the foot of the mountain are recycling plants which have a visitor center. The
surrounding 2,000 acres make up this beautiful park (three times the size of
Central Park). The park has walk and cycle paths, ponds, an aquatic water plant
garden, amphitheatre, open lawns and there are plans for many facilities in the
park which will be completed in 2020.
Apollonia National Park
This archaeological park has a dramatic location on a cliff
overlooking the Mediterranean near Herzliya. The park encompasses the excavated
remains of ancient Greek and Roman cities as well as structures from other
eras. There is a medieval city wall, moat and the remains of a Crusader castle,
Byzantine glass furnace and 15th century mosque. You can walk among
the remains and enjoy the stunning sea views as well as views up and down the
coast.
