Khan Al - Faranj, Acre

Khan Al Faranj or the French Khan is situated in the heart of the central market in the old city of Acre. It is the most ancient of all Khan that remained fully in Acre. In 1535 the Ottomans gave the French trading rights in a few ports in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea including Acre.

The French traders chose the Khan as their home and trade centre of cotton. That's where its name originated from in the 18th century when a different governor moved to Acre and when the French trade was at it's best he deported them all and took control of the cotton trade in this area.

Khan Al-Franj has many modern construction which hide it's original style. Only its southern entrance kept its two floor and remains almost untouched.
