New International Airport near Eilat, Israel
The new Ramon Airport situated 18km north of Eilat in the
Timna Valley will open in early 2018. The airport’s location will provide a gateway to
Eilat, southern Israel and even convenient access to Petra and Aqaba in Jordan
and the Sinai and Taba in Egypt. The addition of this new international airport
in Israel will provide an alternative to the country’s primary airport, Ben
Gurion.

Who Will Use the Ramon Airport
As an international airport the Ramon Airport will service
domestic flights and flights to and from Europe. For travelers heading to Eilat
for a relaxing beach vacation the Ramon Airport will be a much more practical
choice than Ben Gurion. Until now travelers landing in Ben Gurion would have to
take an additional flight down to the Eilat Airport. Now international visitors
will be able to book a direct flight to the Ramon Airport. The new airport also
means that a larger capacity of flights will be able to reach the south. So
more flights and probably cheaper prices.
When the new airport is opened it will be able to handle 2 million
passengers and after further construction 4 million.
The Ramon airport will service flights from airports in
Israel, Tel Aviv and Haifa. International flights will be from Russia and
Europe. Airlines expected to use the Ramon Airport include Israir; Arkia;
Ryanair; Monarch; Ural Airlines; Easyjet; WIzzAir; Finnair and SAS.
Features of the Ramon Airport
Unlike the present Eilat Airport the new Ramon Airport will
have a Duty Free section. Services offered by international airports will also
be available at Ramon including currency exchange and information. Travelers
will be able to reach the rest of the country from a planned new bus station
and park-and-ride facility. There are even plans in the works to connect the
airport to Eilat and the center of the country by rail. The airport will have a
3,600 meter long runway and a terminal covering 50,000m². There will be facilities for
cargo and freight planes as well as a helipad.
