In the heart of the bustling metropolitan Dan Area lies a place of magical respite and adventure, a 250 acre green oasis full of animals called the Safari (Zoological Center Tel Aviv - Ramat Gan). The Safari has the largest number of animals in the Middle East, and is known worldwide for its large breeding herds of elephants, hippos and lively gorilla family. About 1,600 animals of different species: 70 species of mammals, 110 species of birds, and 25 species of reptiles call the Safari their home.
It is divided into a drive- through African Park and a modern walk-through zoo
The word “safari” is derived from Swahili the African language, and means ‘journey’. A visit to the Safari in Ramat Gan is, in essence, an adventurous journey to the world of animals.
The Safari's drive-through African Park resembles the African savanna. Large animal herds carry on with their own lives as close to the wild as possible- courting,breeding, fighting, raising their young. The behavior of the dominant males of different species is evident when sparring over territory or for the attention of the numerous available females. The process of raising their offspring is fascinating, allowing a rare glimpse of the life of African animals.
