Tour Route
You'll meet your guide for the day at your hotel and begin the journey into the Judean Desert, stopping off at the Inn of the Good Samaritan, which has only been accessible by the public since 2010. It houses the fascinating mosaic museum and an archaeological park of Byzantium ruins and artefacts.
On the way to the Dead Sea you'll stop off at a magnificent viewpoint overlooking the Judean Desert and the Jordan Valley. The Dead Sea is the lowest point on Earth and here you'll get a view of the Qumran caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered in 1946, revealing a huge amount of information about the ancient community that lived there. Here is where you'll switch from tour bus to jeep and start the real fun.
The jeeps will take you right into the heart of the desert, a beautiful, peaceful landscape that will make you forget you're just a couple hours' drive from Jerusalem. You will visit the Dragot Cliff, looking out onto Dragot River & the Murbat Caves where many artefacts were discovered in the 1950s dating back primarily to the time of the Bar Kochba revolt, hinting that these caves were a hiding place for the rebels. There are even bonds signed by Bar Kochba himself, a key archaeological discovery.
Next you'll be taken to Michvar, one of the most striking views in the region between the two steepest cliffs, followed by another observation point at the top of Hatzazon. After the desert tour you'll head back to your hotel, with one last stop to experience making herbal tea in the middle of the desert from the plants growing there. A relaxing end to a unique day trip.
